I Think They Had A Lightbulb Moment
Bush threw together a little press conference yesterday, and in doing so, gave his base a tiny glimpse into what it's like to be a Lib/Dem.
Listen, it's not that we wanted Bush to fail from the outset. Well, okay, maybe SOME of us wanted him to fail, but when 9/11 happened, we tried to put our differences aside and rallied against a common foe (that would be Osama Bin Laden, for anyone who's forgotten).
But his true colors cracked through, and those of us who prefer freedom of choice, freedom of expression, and ideas that may help themselves, but help their fellow citizens as well started getting annoyed. We tried, people, we really did. But Bush is just a dick.
Lo and behold, he's gone so far as to piss off his supporters. All that time and money they put in to keeping him in power because he made certain promises. And BOY are they pissed.
From Confirm Them:
- "Get lost Dubya. You cronyist lying loser."
- "I have been a lifelong Republican. I quit. This is truly embarassing."
- "There is absolutely no way to justify this pick. I am sick to my stomach."
- "What have I been saying about Bush all this time? This ass passed over Corrigan, Garza, Jones, Luttig, and Pryor for THIS THING."
- "The President just betrayed his supporters."
- "This is an embarassment. I have defended this administration before, but never again."
- "I’m so mad, I can’t think straight. I’m going to come out and say it, and God alone will have to judge me: GEORGE W. BUSH IS NO LONGER MY PRESIDENT."
Hell, even Rush Limbaugh dittoheads got pissed at HIM for trying to sooth the savage right-wingers.
If I were a staunch right-winger, I know I'd probably be pretty angry. I mean, Miers has been linked to a Texas gay rights group, and apparently was looking for endorsements from them. I wouldn't think right-wingers would like that very much, but who knows - maybe Bush is trying to get right-wingers to be more progressive!
Nah, Bush has his own agenda. He's in his second term and doesn't care what anyone thinks. He's tired of pretending he cares about other people. He's annoyed that he has to do photo ops and hug displaced black people. It's hard work holding up that thin veneer of "I'm just like you!"
It must be a real downer, coming to the realization that the man put in charge of this country is a jackass.
Welcome to the club! Hi, it's nice to meet you! My name is MoxieGrrrl and if you have any questions don't hestitate to ask! There's doughnuts and coffee over there. Don't tell anyone, but we keep the stash of Kahlua and Irish Whiskey under the table. Help yourself.

I'll take some of the Irish Whiskey!
I was hoping Bush would nominate Janice Rogers Brown to the Court. If there's going to be a fight, let's make it a good one. Plus, I like her.
Oh well. I won't be voting for Bush in 2008 ;). He knows that also, so why not get a friend put into a position of power.
I might just vote Libertarian next election. That party is closer to my views anyway.

Based on past experience I would guess that the Right Wing talking heads know intuitively that Bush has nominated someone from a Fundamentalist Church (Valley View Christian) and shares his social conservative philosophy. These guys also know that if they cry about her not being conservative enough then the Democrats are more likely to support her confirmation. A little bit of complaining can go a long way to aiding her and Bush. These guys have been down this street to many times. Since no one except the President knows anything about her views she could believe that the founding fathers wanted to preserve slavery and the 14th amendment wasn't really what the founding fathers had in mind.

"Hi my names Bill Frist and I've been a Republican for some time now, I feel like such an ass, please pass the whiskey and chips"
"Hi Bill!!!"

Come see my blog for who should be nominated instead of Miers!

Hilarious post. I'm not betting she's anywhere near a moderate just yet. Who knows though, W. does enjoy lying through his teeth to the country, so maybe this time his supporters will care if he's full of s**t!

While I agree that I was fairly pissed off at Bush for his lame choice, I've come to understand his position better. See my blog as to why.

BOOZE FOR BUSH
Hey, here's an idea: if everyone that reads blogs like this one sends a gift-wrapped bottle of Thunderbird, or Night Train, or Boone's Farm to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, we could have thousands--no millions-- of bottles of wino wine piling up at his front door!
Propogate the meme throughout the sphere!

Or wrap it up yourself.

I LOVE BOONE'S FARM! Cheap enough to have on hand even if you're dirt poor, good enough to pour into a wine glass and serve it to friends to look sophisticated ;)
Sorry, but I wouldn't waste such goodness on that fucker.

Forbush hit the nail on the head. Some conservatives at the base are pissed because they were egging for a big public fight over abortion and school prayer and such. They genuinely fear the appointment of another David Souter type. Also, they want a judicial activist in the mold of their choice. Bush did exactly what most of us expected - picked a mystery contestant who's only a mystery to everybody else. It's the latest craze in Washington.

Can I please vote for Bill Clinton?

I don't think she can be that fundamentalist if she actually supports gay rights. I mean, gays are the root of all evil! I've learned that in the past five years from the religious reich.
The right's turning on Bush is not a good thing. I mean, they are turning on this pick because she isn't conservative enough? Activist judges my ass. These people are those who would give up their constitutional rights in a second if it meant banning abortion- it's all they care about. She must be hammered during confirmation, in case she is one of those cracked out on god types. We don't need a Roy Moore on the Court.
Scalia and Kennedy will be 72 in the next prez election. Surely one of them will retire during the following four years and the Dems (god willing they win the election) can put someone on the Court. Until then, let's remain vigilent.
